I can't draw. I mean, I can design things okay, but when it comes to just drawing, say, a superhero on a page so all my friends can see what he/she/it looks like... I suck. Suck suck suck. Which is why, a few years back, I created these "design templates."

A sad, sad, wannabe superhero...
Of course, even with a design template, this poor guy still managed to screw things up. I can only help so much...

Basically, these are little naked people (not like that, pervert) I put together that I draw costumes on. I've found that it saves a lot of time, effort, and embarassment over drawing them freehand.

But first things first: I did not draw these myself; I scanned them out of a few back issues of Wizard magazine and modified them in Photoshop. The naked people are by Greg Capullo (of Spawn fame), and the "head shots" next to them (for mask design and such) are by Jim Balent (probably best known for his work on Catwoman). So now you know, and hopefully, I won't get sued.

I should also mention that these images are light. Very light. I did that on purpose; This way, if you don't want something (for instance, you want a bald character, even though the template has hair), you don't really have to have it... Nobody will even notice unless they look really close. It also makes it a lot easier to draw over the lines when they aren't black.

The files are also fairly large. I did my best to make them print at about 10.5 inches (which should fit just fine on a standard 8½ x 11 or A4 sheet of paper), but you may have to fiddle with printer settings in order to get them to work right on your particular system. This isn't an exact science, ya know...

Also, for those of you who don't like the idea of your superheroes just kinda... standing there, I've included a couple of more "action-oriented" templates I ran across on a seemingly-now-defunct superhero RPG web-based magazine. Personally, I don't like 'em much, but if you want 'em, they're here.
